Clinical Ophthalmic Technician
Department: Tech Dept
Reports to: Ophthalmic Supervisor
Location: On Site - 764 Second St, Manchester NH, 03102
Travel Required: Potential coverage in satellite location, Londonderry, NH
Job Summary: This individual is responsible for clinical support in the office. This includes rooming patients, conducting pre-visit testing and providing support to the provider.
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in a health care setting required.
- Experience in ophthalmology preferred.
- Experience in Applanation Tonometry, Refractometry, Lensometry, Ocular and Medical history documentation and a variety of Ophthalmic diagnostic testing preferred.

- Ability to work with frequent interruptions and respond appropriately to unexpected situations.
- Ability to interact and communicate with providers and staff
- Participate as a team member with individuals inside and outside the department.

Responsibilities
- Escort patients from waiting room to exam rooms
- Conducts necessary testing to include:
- Pachymetry
- Retinal/Optic nerve OCT imaging
- Fundus Photos
- Automated Periphery
- Color and Stereo Testing, others as directed - Administers eye drops for tonometry, dilation and prepares patient for laser procedures
- Documents in electronic medical records
- Obtains appropriate consent forms
- Conducts patient phone calls to review medical concerns
- Schedules patient appointments
- Processes medication refills as directed by the provider

Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Care & Diagnosis
- Conduct comprehensive eye exams and diagnostic imaging (OCT, fluorescein angiography, ultrasound, etc.).
- Diagnose and manage retinal diseases, including age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears, and detachments.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on patient needs and latest clinical guidelines.
- Treatment & Surgical Procedures
- Perform in-office procedures such as intravitreal injections (anti-VEGF, steroids).
- Conduct laser treatments for retinal conditions (e.g., photocoagulation, panretinal laser therapy).
- Collaboration & Patient Education
- Work closely with optometrists, general ophthalmologists, and other specialists to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Educate patients and families about retinal diseases, treatment options, and preventive care.
- Stay up to date with the latest advancements in retina care through continuing education and research.
- Administrative & Compliance
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation following regulatory standards.
- Participate in clinical trials and research, if applicable.
- Adhere to HIPAA and healthcare compliance policies.
Qualifications
- Education: Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited medical school.
- Residency: Completed ophthalmology residency program.
- Fellowship: Completed a 1–2 year fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery.
- Licensing & Certification: Board-certified or board-eligible in ophthalmology; NH medical license required.
- Skills:
- Expertise in medical and surgical retina care.
- Strong diagnostic and surgical skills.
- Excellent communication and patient interaction abilities.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
Work Environment
- Outpatient clinical setting.
- May require evening or weekend hours for emergency retinal cases.
- Participate in office on call responsibility.
